Overview

Crissy Field is the crown jewel of Bay Area kiteboarding — an iconic spot right at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. The thermal winds funnel through the Golden Gate strait creating consistent side-shore conditions on most summer afternoons. The views are absolutely world-class, and the vibe is electric when it's firing.

Launch & Landing

Launch from the east end of Crissy Field beach (toward the Warming Hut). The launch area can be tight when crowded — be mindful of other kiters and beachgoers.

Parking & Access

Free parking along Mason Street, though it fills up fast on windy days. Overflow parking at the Sports Basement lot.

Hazards & Safety

Strong currents near the Golden Gate Bridge — do NOT drift past Fort Point. Cold water (50-58°F year round) requires a good wetsuit (4/3 minimum). Watch for cargo ships.

Local Tips

Rig small — it's almost always windier than it looks. A 9m or smaller is your go-to. Ride upwind early because the current can push you toward the bridge.

Nearby Amenities

Restrooms at the east parking lot and near the Warming Hut. The Warming Hut has food and coffee. Sports Basement is nearby.
